How quickly it all changes. We had a donation to the museum of a 1981 Texas
Instrument PC, the first on the market, purchased along with some programs
for $20,000 by a local business couple. It still boots up and runs
perfectly. One of the programs they had with it was a game, a "Flight
Simulator" with a drawing of a man piloting a Piper Cub on the instruction
book cover. Just below the picture, a large bold print message in giant
letters shouts, "WARNING - Insure that your computer has at least 136 kb of
memory available before running this program."
Today, a former student sent me pictures of her flat in London, England
using 15 MB for the "snapshots". You can count the hairs on her husband's
bushy head from 30 feet away.
