Hi Howard,

I found the little Handi Mic worked quite well with the 480 and it's 2.4
bandwidth. I would get the 5 cartridge with the better response and it
should sound very good. The Goldline is almost overkill. The other mic
that drove the rig very well and sounded excellent is the MC-60A. And yes,
I believe it's pins 3 and 5 that are reversed from their normal pin
arrangement. If you buy either the Heil mic with the modular cord or the
little converter to 8 pin that Kenwood sells, you will need to have someone
who can crimp RJ-45's remove the original, reverse those two pins and crimp
another. But, it will work very well if you do.

Good luck and very 73.

Kevin :)

I am thinking of buying a better mike for my ts480. Wider
dynamic range, would be nice. I know their is nothing that can be done
about the 2.4 khz audio bandpass. I also their is a change in the mike
wiring.
I would be interested to know what mikes are being used on the 480, and
would you spend the money again?
