Howard,
I don't own a light probe, but am thinking about picking one up and
perhaps this would be a good use for one:
For about 6 bucks at home depot you can get a 3 prong outlet tester. It
has 3 led's on it, 2 of 1 color and 1 of another color. 2 greens and a
red, or whatever.
Depending on what combination of led's light up, you know if the outlet
is wired correct, if the ground is open, if the ground and neutral are
reversed, nutral open, etc.
