David,

The 480 doesn't read the SWR in speech, but if you use the auto-tune
feature, it will send an A in CW if the SWR is below 10 to 1.  If it's
higher than that, the radio sends "SWR".  If you want a better indication
of your SWR, I suggest you buy the talking watt meter from LG.  It also
measures forward and reflected power.
