I agree with Gary that your description of the computer failure leads to
a partial power supply failure as the likely cause. However, if you were
not using a decent surge protector at the time and/or if the power
supply surged when it quit, the problem could be more extensive. I've
been involved in 2 cases of power supply failure that ended up
destroying in total both motherboards, a hard disk, a video card, a
keyboard and a mouse as well as the two power supplies.
I hope it is a lot simpler than this for you, but just be prepared.
