You can do an upgrade and keep everything, but that usually means also keeping all the detritus already on your drive, any corrupted files, and every single problem. There is just nothing quite as good as a total clean full install for a stable OS.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Upgrade or purchase new computer

I'm running Windows 98 with 256 RAM and 20 gigs, 75 percent of which is unused.
I'm thinking of upgrading to XP. Can I do it on this computer or do I have to
get a new one? Also, if I can do it on this computer, will it overwrite my
existing Win98 and allow me to keep my existing programs or do I have to
reinstall everything? Thanks.
