Hi there,
Well my ham radio hoby started about 16years ago. I had been an
inquisitive young child and I remember a friend of mine had just got
his ham ticket and had a UHF/VHF radio so one day I thought I would
learn what ham radio was all about and I got on the air without a
license. At this time I did not know that you must have a license so I
just figured oh heck I will pick up the mike and talk. Well needless
to say I got in some boiling water over this and from then I was very
interested in ham radio. But it didn't come true for me until I was
about 15 years old then I met up with a guy from New York named Bruce.
His call was K2OPD I think. He was the VE for our area so he came to
the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind and started showing us what
we would need for our license. I don't remember the exact month but my
first call sign once I had recieved my ticket was KB7OPP. Then I
became N7ZIB about one year after recieving my Tech class license with
5 WPM Morse Code. I even helped a 6 year old student in our school who
has now grown up. I did a few study code tapes for him using a
computerized Morse code computer as my Morse code skills are pretty
lousy as I do not care to use Morse code much at all. But now looking
back on everything boy it has been very nice to talk to people around
the world and Echolink is a life saver as I talked to a friend of mine
just a couple of nights ago in Wyoming and I live in Minnesota and he
sounded beautiful. He had a five coming here in to the station. It
is always neat to see who you can find on the air. What a very
interesting and neat hoby. Now I am trying to learn how to fly a
helicopter another one of my wweirded out but can do dreams. I set
very high standards for myself.
