Lots of dietary books are filled with "facts" of various levels of
accuracy. _Neanderthin_ is filled with "myth", in its best sense, another
form of knowing. It is the unexpected intuitions, the "aha" moments, (not
all of which are correct), that make this book special.
The first edition of _Neanderthin_ came out in 1995. NOBODY was saying
this type of thing in the popular press then. S. Boyd Eaton had his
excellent book _Paleolithic Prescription_ gutted, in the dietary section,
by his editors.
Where you get into trouble with _Neanderthin_ is taking his specific
dietary suggestions seriously. Practically nobody can eat as much as he
describes without gaining weight. Ray is an idea man; the details are
fuzzy at best, but the big picture is the important thing. So, get the
big picture, and don't sweat the details in this book.
