Hi.
This is for Holly.
I spotted a Kenwood TR7930 used on the wegb site for The Ham Station, in
Evansville IN.
They are asking $50, but it doesn't have the tone unit, so if they are
using PL in your area, you'll have to get a suitable tone board. A
replacement for the original board can be had from the PIEXX Company of
Hillsboro, NH. That will push the price up to about $110. You can also
always go the route of putting one of the Communications Specialists PL
encoders in the radio, and that would probably cut the price down a little,
but you'll probably be locked into picking just one PL tone. I believe the
board that is made for that radio lets you set up 4 tones that you can
choose between.
The TR7930 is an older radio made between 1983 and about 1987. It didn't
take a speech board, but it was keypad programmable and fairly
accessible. It is a 25 watt radio--a little less power than you were
looking for, but powerful enough if you have an efficient antenna.
Hope this helps.
