The IC718 speach chip reads frequency, mode, and gives you an S reading for
receive signal strength. It also gives you some very basic memory
information, for example, if a memory is clear.
Not a whole lot, but it's certainly better than nothing.
I use an Icom 718 for my portable HF station, and love it.
