Russell,

Can you be more specific about the error message?  You don't have to
worry about the extension since the program automatically assigns
one.  The only other problem I can think of is that you're trying to
save the file in a folder that doesn't exist, although you'd have to
work at it because the program usually puts its files in "My Documents."
