USB 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 refer to "different speed" in data transfer. the higher the number the faster is the data transfer.for example USB 1.1 transfers data at about 12 Mb/second whereas the USB 2.0 transfers at about 480 Mb/sec.

the slow "speed of painting of screen" is basically because of your 450 MHz  CPU  (as already pointed out by David Gillett)

so irrespective of the location of the USB port  ( front/back) it will be of one type only. either 1.0,or 1.1, or 2.0. or something still higher about which I have no knowledge. the other point is MOST (not all) USB 2.0 is backward compatible.in other words a USB 2.0 device can normally be plugged into USB 1.1 port but it will work but at a lesser speed.
