PC Freezes up after reinstall of OS.

I am at my wits end. I have a homebuilt PC (512MB memory, 2.4g pentium 4, DVD-ROM, CD-RW drive) that was running fine until we had massive issues with our in home network. After re-installing WinXP Home the system randomly freezes. I could be playing hearts, I could be surfing the net, it doesn't matter.  No error messages, device manager doesnt' indicate any problems. I'm stumped.

Any suggestions?
