my wife's old computer is an emachines(R) T2824
it has a 250watt power supply, a 2.53ghz celeron d
cpu, and 256mb of ram.
this is my first time trying to add new parts to a
pc.
so far i have purchased a new oem cpu, INTEL|P4
3.0E 478 1M 90N ROHS % and two 512 mb pc 2100
stix.
according to an emachines rep, this system will
only work with a celeron up to 3ghz and that i
need a new power supply to make these changes.
the motherboard spec's that come in a pdf file on
the computer say nothing about the processor being
a celeron, but a P4, and according to Scott
Mueller's Upgrading and Reparing PCs, the board is
suitible for both with the 478 pin configuration.
this book also says that the board has automatic
voltage control, so i am assuming that if i plug
in the cpu and start it up i will not destroy
it--providing everything else goes right i.e. pin
orientation and SED.
