I assume that C: is your boot drive. You cannot copy files that are in use
using a simple copy operation. To do a backup of the C: drive, you will need
to use the backup program that is part of XP and allow it to do shadow copy.
It usually works fairly well. However, the best way is to create an
alternate boot install on your D: drive, or boot from a specially prepared
boot CD (not a job for the novice). Then boot to the alternate boot and do
the backup. None of your normal boot files will be in use and will copy
fine.

Hi, this is my first post here. I am trying to back up my entire hard drive
onto a recently purchased Fantom External USB 2.0 Disk 80GB Drive. My hard
drive is partitioned into C & D. I can copy the D drive just fine, but when
I try to copy the C drive, it tells me that the hiberfil.sys is in use and
it cannot complete the process. Does anyone know how I can get around this?
I don't know if I want to disable my hiberfil, but if I do, will that solve
the problem? Has anyone disabled the hiberfil and had a bad/good
experience. I am a relative newbie and still learning the lingo, so please,
talk down to me! :) Thanks for your help! Stephanie
