Thanks for the Ideas...
Without the MFT working, (Four bad file segments
and/or three bad sectors), it reports stuff "OK",
(like the drive label and used space), but Acronis can't
find the files to start the Image... It just fails, silently.
I guess it can't "log" the drive, and gives up very quickly...
I tried bootable CD OS's (including BartPE) but they only
see the same thing Windows sees, (not much more than a
drive letter...)
I'll have to re-visit the Maxtor Utilities. Their tech support
people did not seem to think I could fix it though. The
guy just shrugged and said it was a valid Maxtor failure code.
