The first problem could be heat related. Check the case filter, if any, all
fans and all heat sinks for excessive dust. If clean and the problem
continues, the power supply could be weakened or the hard drive could be
delayed in coming up to speed. You could try swapping out hardware to
pinpoint the faulty hardware, if any.
The second problem could be software (OS), but is likely related to the
first problem through the hard drive or even RAM. A search of the Microsoft
Knowledge Base might give you more specific information on the error
message(s).

Hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 P4,2.4mhz, 1.25G ram. I've had 2 years w/ no
issues until this week.
1. When I try to power up it does nothing for approx 5 min, then will flash
front indicating lights. If I push start button while they are flashing it
will start.
2. I now get BlueScreenOfDeath intermittently. In the event viewer I get
these two faults :The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service
terminated with service-specific error 2147952450 (0x80072742), and this
one: Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8056e2a2,
parameter3 ba6d5b24, parameter4 00000000.
If anyone can offer suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
