If you want to build your own fan dipole, or if you want to know more about
the operation of one before buying it, my favorite antenna info page has
some good reading on the subject.

http://www.cebic.com.

In the Tales and Technical section, there is a downloadable pdf document
called "My Top 5 Favorite All Band Antennas. One section of this paper
discusses the fan dipole, and some important pitfalls to avoid when building
or installing them.

I think there's also some information about them in the Antennas from the
Ground Up link near the bottom of this page.

These pages, and other sources can also be found by searching for fan dipole
with Google.
