I've suggested things like that to mfj and a couple other companies that
make almost everything but they didn't like the idea I guess since they
never acted on it.

A few years ago I saw a Russian web site  that showed how to build a  box
with 4 push buttons to put inline  witha  desk mic to provide the extra pf
keys.    It didn't seem to be magic, just the right parts wired in the
correct order.  Sadly, the web site was mostly in Russian with a little bit
of  very poor English and a bunch of graphics.    If someone offered one of
these, I'd buy one.
