As far as the VHF/UHF power drop, Icom admits it is in fact occurring, but
simply says they can't locate the actual component causing the problem.

I've never had any problem with icom tech support at all. The power drop
could be an antenna problem, if the SWR is spiking, it will cut the power
back when that happens, or if the coax is bad. with the AT-180, I couldn't
tell you, when I use my 706MKIIG I use an LDG tuner.
