I think that they are digital, and in that case you would need the Pro-96.
I have a Uniden BC250D and a Pro-96, and the 96 is more user friendly I
think.  I'm not sure about the Uniden BC296, or 796, but I can check on
those and get back to the list once I hear anything from the groups I am
subscribed to for those groups, but I would go with the Pro-96
