Have you recently installed this floppy or had some other reason for the
cable connection to be made? Usually, the floppy light always being on is
an indication that the cable was installed wrong so that pin one on the
drive isn't lined up with pin one on the motherboard. Floppies don't always
follow the same convention with regard to whether their pin one is nearest
to the power supply connection or not.
To be sure, you might reexamine your motherboard connection and the
connection on the floppy to see if there are any indication as to which are
pin one on each.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Floppy drive non-responsive
My floppy disk drive (A) and floppy disk controller, when looking under
device manager, are indicated as working properly. I'm running XP
Pro/SP2.Under "Standard floppy disk controller properties,it says the floppy
controller location is on "SIS PCI to ISA bridge". Driver date is 7/1/2001,
version 5.1.2600.2180. When I clicked on "Update Driver",the result was that
there was no driver to update to, i.e.,apparently the driver is OK. Under
Disk Drives on -Device Manager- it only lists IOMEGA ZIP100(B:) & ST3160023A
(C:,my hard drive). Shouldn't floppy A: be listed also? Two more things: I
checked the connections, and they are OK--including that the strap
connection is not backwards; and, the light on the floppy is ALWAYS on,
which obviously is not right. Any idea on how I can troubleshoot this? The
"Troubleshoot..." button under the floppy drive and the controller did not
help. Thanks very much.
