out of curiosity, why do you like to put fuses right at the battery?
It would seem to me that, the whole point of fuses is to protect the
equipment, not the wiring or the battery, so therefore, double fuses near
the back of the rig would be much better.  This because, in the event of a
short somewhere between the battery and the rig, the fuses at the rig will
protect where as the fuses at the battery wouldn't be as likely to protect
the radio in the case of a short along the harness.
Then again, putting a fuse in each wire, ground and hot at the battery, and
then again at the rig would give the best protection.  However, i would say
that forgoing the fuses at the actual battery end would be a better
compremise, and just keep the fuses nearer to the rig.
