The V7 is a newer (i.e. more recent0 model. This V7 takes the speech
board and the 742 does not. I understand that you can get a freq
readout of sorts by having the radio play back a series of tones to
tell you your frequency. The 742 has one great advantage: you can put
in a third band module, thus making it (surprise) a triband rig.
Modules are available for 10 meter FM (I think), 6 meters, 220
megacycles, and 1.2 gigacycles.

Yes, unless your 742 is configured as a tribander.

No, the 742 doesn't take any speech board.

Is OK. BTW, I think that the TM-733 is the dual-band only equivalent
(or very similar) to the 742, minus the expandability with the third
band module.

BTW, I have Echomac working. I also have Echolink on the Windows box
upstairs. The problem I had with Echomac was with my router, but
that's been worked out.
