  Wow,
Hang on to those issues of BTP! I've never read them but Bill Gerey and Tom
Fowle at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Institute had nothing but great things to
say about them--evidently worth the read when they came out.

Subject: Re: ts480

I read some of the stuff from mods.dk after doing a Google search for
Kenwood TS-480. Are people saying that the peak output is not reaching 100
watts on a two-tone test or on steady-state vowels?
Even in a two-tone test of SSB equipment, the average output power is half
the peak power. In other words, are people trying to defy the laws of
physics? Many meters don't read peak power properly, and solid-state
equipment in particular is peak-limited.

I still covet this rig, but there are questions from my wife such as "when
are we planning to buy new computers", "When are you going to get rid of all
that junk, including old equipment and BTP magazines in the basement?" "How
much is it going to cost us to stop the leaks in the bathroom and re-roof
the house? And she is looking for work at the moment, so things may have to
wait. Then my question comes up:
How long is this radio going to continue to be manufactured, accessories
available, etc.?

One of my mottos at work is "You've got questions? We've got questions!"

Some people think that the devil is in the details. Actually, God is in the
details.
