It definitely does play RFB and D encrypted books. I purchased
the unit directly from RFB and D so as to avoid the additional
shipping charges and delay time which would occur if I purchased
the player from another vender. I purchased this thing in
December
of 2004, and the purchase price including modification for the
encryption was $375.
