There is free software that will make a "restore point" backup of your registry at startup in addition to on demand, as well as doing other things, such as optimizing your registry. ERunT ERunD RegOpt

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

Keep in mind that unless you backup your installed software and data and settings to restore WITH your restore point or registry backup, then, if you have installed software or entered settings since the last "point" taken, the restored registry or "point" will not be aware of it.

The freeware mentioned above, will also allow you to make a registry backup on demand, such as after you install new software or change the settings on any of your installed software, so your last saved point will always be aware of your current software status.

Does anyone know how to set system restore to automatically set a restore
point when you turn the computer on?

I'm using WinXP2 on an HP computer.
