SOME of the older RAM required different voltage(s) to be
set on the MB... I believe this is the reason you are "smoking"
some of them, (but there could be additional reasons, I guess...)
Assuming the above is the "only" problem, it would seem your
MB uses the higher voltage. <??>
In any event, for RAM of this vintage, "blind swapping" is not
a good way to test...
