Go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/system
information/components/ports/serial and you can determine what is using the
serial port. If you have a modem installed, it will use a serial port. If
the Wacom has a manual IRQ setting, using a different IRQ could help.

Perhaps the software for the Wacom needs to be installed before the device
is connected to the computer. Some older devices required that installation
procedure. I'm not familiar with the Wacom.

I hope this helps.

First, I hope this is a hardware problem. I have hooked up an old Wacom
Art Pad II to my current system running XP.
When I start the computer it recognized that I had new hardware. The
pad recognizes the pen.

My problem arises when I try to install the drivers/software. It keeps
telling me the serial port is already in use.

I have one serial port and the only thing plugged in it is the Wacom Art
Pen.

I have nothing else that requires a serial port.

How in the world do I get the system to recognize what is really there?

TIA,k
