I don't think that it's the hard disk, sounds like you have a file system
error. Try booting into safe mode and see if you get the same problem. If
you can get into safe mode try running scandisk from there to see if you can
fix the problem. If you can't get into safe mode, I'd first suggest using
the system roll back feature of XP to try and get back before the crash that
caused all this.
Then if all else fails, you may end up doing a system restore. Remember,
Toshiba tech support is very helpful on stuff like this.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Toshiba Laptop Hangs
I have a Toshiba Satellite S1900-303 that just hangs following a windows
crash (OS is Windows XP).
On boot-up the laptop enters "chkdsk" mode. This runs as expected to 100%,
but then freezes with a file "cross-linked on allocation unit 1769630".
If you bypass the chkdsk process, XP starts-up, blue screens and soft boots,
back to square one!
Any ideas? I have a bad feeling it may be the hard disk .......
