along as you run the cable from the radio to the tuner these days, you need
do nothing else if it interfaces with the radio, if it doesn't then you need
to make sure the internal tuner is off but I think that one plugs in to the
tuner port on the back of the radio as well ad the Coax connection in which
case you don't even need to do that since it will disable it for you and the
same tune button for the internal tuner will or should, work that tuner for
you.

On my Kenwood 850 there is a switch on the back panel that needs to be
switched to "ext" to disable the internal tuner. The switch is somewhat
recessed and may need  a fingernail file to move it.
