Tom, I made a 178 foot long inverted vee that I feed with 450 ohm line
through a mfj tuner. It works reasonably well on 160/10 meters. Actually,
I can get it to radiate on 6 as well. Anyway, my lot is only 112 feet
long. I went from supports in back and front, and turned the ends back to
the house in front and across the width of the yard in back. Kind of like
a print letter Z. Zed for our cousins across the ocean.
Anyway, most of the radiating comes off the center so it really gets out
quite well. Worked California in thhe 160 meter contest from Wisconsin. I
worked Panama on 80 meter cw this winter. Get to Europe on 40 and 30, and
hold my own on 20. So maybe that will help.
Their is theoretical magic to the 178 feet in length.
