I know for a fact that WIN XP is a huge RAM eater and that could be a
significant reason as to why your friend's computer is lagging. See how
much RAM it can handle and then max it out. A P3 from around 1999 can
usually handle up to one gig of RAM. My old AMD Athlon had 750 MB of RAM. I
ran it on Win ME and it worked just fine. For the applications that your
friend uses his rig for a Win ME OS and around 500 to 1000MB of RAM will do
the trick. It doesn't sound like he is a gamer but even with that setup he
could play a lot of titles out there. Hope this helps you.
