Difficult to compare modern and paleo food preparation customs, but
condsidering that raccoons are said to wash their food, I don't see why
paleoman could not have done likewise.
Might not have been needed, since we are *trained* to chew our food;
experimenters have found it unnecessary to chew raw meat, and those with
access to the right kind of stone could have mushed anything else.
