John,
I have been using Netscape as my email reader for a very long time but I
mainly use Microsoft's browser with add-in toolbars as my browser.
Having Netscape installed, I do use the browser from time to time. It
is still set to the original default home page, Netscape.com. I think
I'm familiar with the problem you are describing. I am not fond of the
new Netscape page at http://www.netscape.com that has the Anchor
recommended sites but a link on that page to My Netscape at
http://my.netscape.com/index2.psp takes me to the news filled page that
I believe you are use to. If you make that your browser home page, you
should be good. Netscape suggests that AOL.com is a similar style page
to use as an alternative.
In addition to the search sites you mentioned, any news media firm these
days typically has their own news filled home page from Networks (NBC,
ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, etc.) and National Newspapers (NYT for example) to
local stations and local rags.
If you want access to several news portals from one page, while it would
seem to become redundant pretty quickly, you could create a personal
home page, as I have, with links to your favorite sites (either text
based links or, if you save images, with graphic images for links, my
personal preference). Using frames, it should be possible to design a
page to display a few of these sites interactively all at once but as
they are pretty full pages to start with, it would seem to be expecting
a lot to put very many on one page.
