what started this? did you drop it? do you know?  If the reset didn't help I 
almost wonder if it broke.

Thanks Lynn, but no cigar.  All the keys give a high pitched beep and
the reset didn't change anything!!
I did, however, hear the beep when I released the function key.
Tried it with the "lock" function on and off, if it truly makes any 
difference.
I'm truly puzzled.
