I don't generally do mine on a regular basis.  I guess if there's a power
outage, I may not have much life in it; I usually put it on when it goes
dead.

As far as the auto shutoff, you need to enable that, if it was changed
Check Menu 18, Auto power Off (APO).  The default is 30 minutes; but I think
the tone is when APO is off.
