I hear ham-sticks are pretty good and around $20 each, their only draw
backs are maybe a somewhat decreased band-range and swapping one for
another unless you also invest in the quick release connectors.

This is second-hand though.

I have also heard that mobile mount antennas such as on-glass antenna and
such can work well, and have heard of someone putting a mobile mount
ground-plane antenna on a cookie sheet for an artificial plane in their
attick.


I have an indoor j-pole antenna which works well for 2 meters, though it
does throw up some RFI inside the room.

I have asked around about the same thing, and from what I've been told and
from what I've seen, there is no one good solution, there are lots of ways
to do things when it comes to antennas.  My best two suggeestions would be
to ask a local ham/club for their thoughts/advice, as they can also help
you with any RFI problems possibly and can also maybe help you construct
some home brew antennas for a lot less than you'll pay on hte market.  The
other suggestion, if that's not an option, is maybe to look into the
ham-sticks or mobile mounts.
