Maybe this has been covered before, I'm new to the list. About a month
ago I bought a Kenwood TS 480 SAT which is an amazing radio for the blind I
think. With the voice module which you must buy separate it does just
everything you could ever need. It reads all the menus, S meter, QRG, and
dozens of things from the front panel including the number pad. Things are
adjustable from the front panel such as power level, AGC,VOX gain, noise
blanker, keying speed, preamp, mode,Voice monitor,DSP filters, Rcver high
and low cut, and that is just a few of the things you can do from the front
control head. As I remember there is around 70 menus and the settings for
them you adjust on the front panel. Built in antenna tuner. The unit is in
two pieces and small so folks living in small shacks would like that and is
connected by a 14 foot cable which connects or disconnects like a fone plug
on the wall.I don't know how fast it will key on CW but I have had my
friends listen to 55 WPM and it works wonderful. once you learn the location
of the buttons your home free. Price from HRO is about 940.00 dollars plus
70.00 for the VGS-1 CW filters cost 120.00 This was the price due to a
200.00 coupon.
A sighted person would have to solder the filter in but the voice chip just
plugs in.
