TR installs itself as another sound device driver. Sometimes it seems
necessary to go into the "Sound/audio properties" from the configuration
panel and change the device driver back to the driver that came with your
PC.  You can set the driver back to TR when who need to make a recording.
Of course this is not easy to do if TR has your sound all screwed up!

indeed...although total recorder has that built right in.  Not sure if its
just my picky laptop sound card but total recorder seems to take over the
settings and made working with other audio applications difficult and
sometimes disabled audio altogether...again, this might have just been my
phunky sound card.
