I had the right idea I guess, when I first got in the hobby, I knew ahead of
time I'd be on 2 meters first so I listened on my scanner while I was
studying, I was able to hold my own, had to learn a couple things but didn't
do too bad, then same on HF, friends let me get on their radios and find out
how it was done. I was lucky, luckily though, around here people don't get
yelled at too bad about not saying the right things. It depends on who's on,
but for the most part people let it go or just tell them nicely, like
recently we had someone on a local repeater I monitor ask his friend what
his 20 was, I laughed at that one but later in a QSO with the self appointed
new trustee of the repeater, he was corrected.
