That's not what I heard with the wireless internet on my 900 MHz phone,
this was honestly, at least 30 seconds, some people used to hang up when
they heard it, I know the sound you're talking about, totally different,
that's just a short burst, this went on for a while.

We have caller ID and sometimes when you answer the phone you hear a
packet type sound for half a second and I have heard this in places where
there is no wireless connection.
