The problem I had with a couple 440s i had is the glue used in the pll
circuit to stabelize parts and keep out microphonics and so forth becomes
a conducter which really screwes things up.  Only cure is to remove many
very small parts, clean thorroughly and reassemble.  Not a job for the
fainthearted.
