Subject: Annual Summer Institute - Call for Participation

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
14th ANNUAL SUMMER INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE
Utah State University
Logan, Utah

27-30 August 2002

Each year at Utah State University for the past thirteen years, the Department
of Instructional Technology has sponsored an Annual Summer Institute,
organized and hosted by M. David Merrill. It has grown to become an annual
gathering of industrial, government, and academic leaders interested in key
trends and issues of design and instruction.

Institute speakers representing a wide spectrum of interests report on their
attempts to join theory and practice in design. Special keynote speakers
describe trends, cutting-edge applications and systems, and the practical uses
new theoretical ideas.

This year's keynote speakers include Laura Palmer Noone (President, University
of Phoenix), M. David Merrill (Utah State University), Bryan Chapman (Brandon
Hall, Inc.), Tom Orton (formerly of Intel), Rob Foshay, (PLATO Learning,
Inc.), and Bonnie Nardi (Aligent Technologies). Together these speakers will
present a wide range of views on enterprise distance learning, tool and market
trends, and theoretical innovations. Our goal has been to draw together
speakers that normally wouldn't be found on the same program. A list of
keynote speakers from previous Institutes can be found at our Web site:

http://www.itinstitute.usu.edu

You are invited to submit a proposal to present your own work in one of the
afternoon breakout sessions. Work of interest includes reports on innovations
in tools, processes, organization, or theory base. It may describe results,
lessons learned, new insights, or works or ideas in progress. To submit a
proposal, send your presentation title and a 150-word summary to:

The atmosphere of the Summer Institute is friendly, small, and
highly interactive, with a personal and informal atmosphere. Keynote speakers
also present during the afternoon concurrent breakout sessions, and there are
ample opportunities for informal discussions in a friendly atmosphere. Meals
are included in the registration fee, as well as social events in the evening
(Western Barbecue, Banquet, Open House).

If you have an interest in being one of our presenters, we would be
pleased to hear from you. Even if you choose not to present, we hope to see
you in Logan this August.
