Rather than reboot, have the connection place an icon on the desktop
toolbar. Then right click on the icon and chose 'repair'. If this does not
work for your particular problem, you can use it for those times when the
connection deteriorates for whatever reason(s).
Go to network connections. Right click on the LAN connection and chose
properties. On the bottom of the 'general' page you can select to have an
icon in the 'notification' area as well as a 'notification' of problems. I
have found both to be helpful.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Connecting to WAP
Daughter's Win2K-Pro computer shares Internet connection with me and gets a
strong signal from the wireless access point, WAP, but on first boot it will
not connect. However, if she reboots, it connects to the Internet. This
"experiment" has been repeated at least a dozen times, so it is not a
coincidence. Why would a reboot be required to establish a connection? How
can I fix this for her?
Thanks in advance for any leads on this vexing problem.
Gordon Totty
