Hi,
I'm not sure I'm posting this to the right forum but here goes...
Early last week, I was using Partition Magic, my whole system crashed
and I lost everything. Fortunately, I had made an image of my data
drive (D:) and have recovered almost all my data.
I had a dual-boot system with WinMe and WinXP. I wanted to get rid of
the dual-boot and just use WinME. Since I could find nowhere to
uninstall WinXP, I just deleted the data in the WinXP partition using
Partition Magic and then merged the 'empty' partition with the active
(C:) WinMe partition. Bad mistake!! When Partition Magic completed, my
system would no longer boot to any operating system. I tried all the
boot disks that I had and I could see all the files in DOS but the
system would not boot. It just hung up with a blank screen. I finally
gave up and ran Fdisk and deleted all the partitions and reformatted
drive C: I then installed WinXP home and eventually rebuilt most of my
system with WinXP. I do agree with all who said that WinXP is a better
operating system. It certainly does not freeze up as often as WinME.
Now, when I look at my hard disk in Partition Magic, it shows one
partition, C, and shows the correct size (about 40 Gigs) for the hard
drive. When I look at Drive C: in WinXP, it shows the drive as only
having 30 Gigs total in Drive C. I really need the 10 gig difference
between the two to partition as my data drive. Is there anything that I
can do to recover the apparent loss of 10 gigs of space on my hard drive?
My system, now: WinXP Home, 40 gig hard drive, Dell L800r, CD-RW drive,
floppy drive.
Thanks...
Loy
