I read the following on cnet:
" The more you rely on your PC for digital still and video imaging and other multimedia fun, the more likely you are to suffer from serious input/output aggravation. Even new PCs typically lack the FireWire connector most digital camcorders use, and many systems sold before 2003 support only the older USB 1.1 standard. What's more, few PCs offer built-in flash-card readers for your digital media. The good news is that you can address these shortcomings with relatively simple, inexpensive upgrades. Here, we walk you through the two-step process of adding front-panel USB 2.0 ports, FireWire ports, and media-card readers to your PC.

The first step entails adding high-speed USB 2.0 and FireWire capability to your PC by installing a PCI card. For our example, we chose the Heisei Soho USB 2.0 & FireWire Combo PCI host adapter. In addition to internal USB and FireWire connectors, the card has two external USB 2.0 and two FireWire ports on its slot bracket for rear-panel access.

The next step involves adding a front-panel hub for easier access to these new ports. We selected the Koutech F7210 10-in-1 USB 2.0 front-panel internal card reader. This combo hub installs in a 5.25-inch drive bay to provide front-panel access to two USB 2.0 ports, two FireWire ports, two Serial ATA ports, a 6-in-1 digital media-card reader, and three audio jacks. Our source, Newegg.com, was selling the Heisei combo PCI card for $29.99 and the Koutech F7210 for $57. If you don't need the media-card reader, Newegg.com sells USB 2.0 PCI host adapters for as little as $9 and FireWire PCI host adapters for around $14. "

I have 2 high speed USB ports on the rear of my cpu, but no firewire. My aim is to use digital camera and digital camcorder to upload images, video. Would I replace my PCI card that has the usb ports with one that has capability for high speed usb as well as firewire? Would my card in my dell dimensions 8250 have the internal firewire connectivity capability already?. If so, I would only need purchase the frontpanel hub? please help.....
