A computer typically gives you this message when it has lost the hard drive.
Next time you turn your system on, listen carefully for the sound of your
hard drive spinning up to speed. If all you hear is fans and no,
high-pitched "whirring" sound of your hard drive then:
a) your hard drive has become disconnected inside your case or...
b) your hard drive is dead or....
c) a 'stiction' problem that can be resolved by tapping or shaking your hard
drive while the machine is turned on -- recommend as last resort, but it
works especially well on SCSI drives
d) your system setup (bios) hasn't been told to "auto detect" or hasn't been
given correct specs. on your drive's Cylinders, heads, etc.
hope this helps....but more importantly, hope you've backed up irreplaceable
data.
