The Prize recognizes elite athletes with a disability that have demonstrated an
exceptional level of determination to overcome their adversities through sport
and the Paralympic Games.

During the Torino 2006 Winter Paralympics nominations were received from
National Paralympic Committees (NPC). The athletes were nominated by the Chef de
Missions of the delegations competing at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter
Games. Out of all the nominees, six (three male and three female) went through
to the final round.

The names of the six finalists selected in the second round are as follows:

Male: Lonnie Hannah II from USA, Todd Nicholson from Canada and Armando Ruiz
from Mexico.
Female: Colette Bourgonje from Canada, Lacey Heward from USA and Olena Iurkovska
from Ukraine.

This morning, the judging committee, consisting of four members of the
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board, decided the final
winners of the prize. After repeated draws between Lonnie Hannah II and Todd
Nicholson, Hannah II finally won after five rounds of voting.

The winners of the Whang Youn Dai Overcome Prize at the Torino 2006 Paralympic
Winter Games are:

Male: Lonnie Hannah II from the USA
