Kathy Jo,
I think Joy raises some very valid points and questions in her reply to
your post. I agree that it is probably better to inform your caseworker of
your plans now rather than waiting several months. Yes, he or she may get
frustrated at the thought of your casting aside plans which he or she has
spent a great deal of time developing. Human service professionals are
human beings, after all. AS A CLIENT IT IS NOT YOUR OBLIGATION TO KEEP YOUR
CASEWORKER HAPPY, ESPECIALLY WHEN DOING SO BLOCKS PROGRESS TOWARD YOUR OWN
GOALS. If you want to acknowledge his or her efforts and express
appreciation , buy a nice card and write a sincere thank you note.
As to your parents desire to take in foster children, that is an issue
that can only be decided between them and your state department of child
protective services.
If you do decide to move out in the near future, ask the organizations
you are working with to help you develop backup plans so that you will not
have to return home even if your first plans fall apart.
Susan
